(Dec. 25, 2018)
History was made last week as the Boston Blades became the first American CWHL team to travel overseas for back-to-back matchups versus Chinese clubs Kunlun and Vanke.
Following a pair of losses to Kunlun over the previous weekend, the Blades and Rays partook in an exciting two-game series to end the trip to China. A dominant three-goal second period for Vanke, with markers from Hanna Bunton, Cayley Mercer, and Xin Fang, helped lift the Rays to a 5-1 win in the first contest. Vanke goaltender Elaine Chuli then took over in the second game securing a 27 save shutout performance. Mercer added another two assists to push her CWHL point lead to 27 (10 G, 17 A) heading into the holiday break.
