Head Coach: Rob Morgan
Rob Morgan brings over 20 years coaching experience to the Vanke Rays after serving two years as the Associate Head Coach of the Yale Bulldogs.
During his two seasons with the team, Yale had five players earn All-Ivy League recognition and one earn All-ECAC Hockey honors.
Prior to Yale Morgan went 78-49-12 in five seasons as head coach at St. Norbert’s, earning NCHA Coach of the Year honors after leading the team to a school-record 19 wins in 2013-14. He was named NCAA Divi- sion III West Region Coach of the Year after leading the Green Knights to an NCHA title in 2012-13. St. Norbert’s made its first NCAA Division III Tournament appearance that year, falling to No. 1 Plattsburgh State in a national quarterfinal game.
Before taking over at St. Norbert’s, Morgan spent six years at Dartmouth (2003-04 through 2008-09), helping the Big Green to five NCAA Tournament appearances — including three straight from 2007 through 2009. In his time at Dartmouth Morgan helped the Big Green advance to 5 ECAC semi-finals, winning two ECAC tournaent championships and two regular season IVY league championships, coached four Olympians, 13 Under-22 national team players and one All-American.
In addition to his work within the NCAA, Morgan coached North County Community College to a NEWCHA league championship in 2003, and coached the first year University of Leftbridge Canada West Usport team to a 16-11-3 record to garner Canada West Coach of the Year honors.
Morgan will also serve as the Associate Head Coach for the Chinese Women’s National Team.
Morgan and his wife Rhonda have two adult children, Braden and Brooke.
Assistant Coach: Jenesica Drinkwater
Jenesica Drinkwater joins the Vanke Rays coaching staff with a passion for educating and developing athletes.
Drinkwater is a 2014 graduate of Syracuse University with a degree in public health. As a goaltender at Syracuse she started 66 games and finished her career with a 30-27-6 record and a .929 save percentage. During her senior season she posted career highs in appearances, wins, shutouts, saves, save percentage, and GAA in helping Syracuse capture their second 20-win season in school history.
After graduating, Drinkwater has been involved in coaching at various levels. Most recently she worked at the Vermont Hockey Training Center as the Director of Operations and Training where she worked with the female and goaltender development programs, as well as assisting with planning and conducting of all off ice training programs.
Prior to that, Drinkwater had previous coaching stops at Castleton University and Middlebury College. While at Middlebury, where she worked specifically with the goaltenders, the team posted a 21-6-3 record and was crowned NESCAC regular season and tournament champions. Her goaltenders posted a cumulative .926 save percentage and 1.55 GAA.
Goalie Coach: DanDan Jia
Dandan Jia joins the Vanke Rays coaching staff as the goalie coach after representing China on the international level and coaching on the national level after her retirement from playing.
Jia played for Team China for 12 years, 2002- 2014, including representing them in the 2010 Winter Olympics and multiple world championships, including captaining the team starting in 2013.
For the last two years, Jia coached the U18 Chinese Team. She also coached goalies for the Harbin Women’s Team, which had great success in the China National Ice Hockey League since 2013. Harbin won first place in the league from 2015-17, as well as a silver medal in the thirteenth national games.
